As you are all aware of, it has only been a few years since turbocharging was seen purely as a way to enhance the performance of a vehicle. Today it is one of the most critical technologies within powertrain development and a key strategy in controlling CO2 emissions, improving fuel efficiency and increasing performance and drivability.
New emission regulations in Europe and the US mean that the OEMs will make a major push towards downsizing engines in the next three years. Facing the present overall situation quite a few OEMs will concentrate on manufacturing fuel-saving (sub-)compact cars. Therefore downsizing will play an evermore important role in allowing these cars to have a dynamic performance while decreasing fuel consumption. For these reasons the conference will have a special focus on the possible synergies between turbocharging and downsizing.
